In the context of the Oslo2Rome initiative by MotionWerk, e-mobilists are travelling around Europe with the so-called "e-mobility wallet" in order to test a cross-border charging network based on blockchain technology, aided by the combined efforts of ElaadNL, Enexis Groep, enviaM, Fortum, innogy, Sodetrel with EDF Lab and Èlectricité de Strasbourg and VKW.
Essen, 8th of November, 2017 - Fuelling at every petrol station in Europe, even across national borders, is perfectly normal for IC-cars (cars with internal combustion engines), but as yet not always self-evident E-cars (electric cars). At present, the extensive range of charging options complicates the associated billing process especially when travelling abroad. MotionWerk aims to solve this problem by developing - in cooperation with its partners ElaadNL, Enexis Groep, enviaM, Fortum, innogy, Sodetrel with EDF Lab and Èlectricité de Strasbourg and VKW - a shared blockchain-based e-mobility wallet, a kind of virtual purse. As will be evident at the Oslo2Rome tour, scheduled to take place from the 27th to the 30th of November 2017, a pan-European network based on blockchain technology is achievable in the near future. For a comprehensive test, a test team of each partner is dispatched to cross the border to a neighboring Country with an electric car and charge this across provides via the e-mobility wallet. The trips take place between Nancy and Mulhouse (Èlectricité de Strasbourg / EDF Lab / Sodetrel), Vorarlberg and Mulhouse (VKW), Leipzig and Upper Austria (enviaM), Norway and Sweden (Fortum), as well as the Netherlands and the Ruhr area around Essen ( ElaadNL / Enexis Groep). In Germany, charging stations operated by innogy are used.
MotionWerk has championed decentralised blockchain technology in the German market since May of 2017, so far focusing on Share&Charge, a network for charging stations and electric cars.

An e-mobility wallet based on blockchain technology offers a multitude of options
Due to its open infrastructure, the blockchain technology at work in the Oslo2Rome project enables users to charge their vehicles at every participating charging station without ever having to take into account the provider and his or her terms and conditions. With a single e-mobility wallet, travellers can make use of all charging options offered by our partners and choose freely from a range of payment methods. They can also view their transaction details at any stage of the process. What is more, since the information is saved and verified by blockchain technology, no single provider can gain exclusive control of the many charging points. On the contrary, the continuous synchronisation of all customer information ensures data security while creating an open infrastructure with an impressive range of rates and conditions. Thus, MotionWerk and its seven partners are taking a significant step forward, towards a seamless, climate friendly automated mobility.
Oslo2Rome addresses current regulations and delivers alternatives
When it comes to future mobility, the open infrastructure of Oslo2Rome - based on the principles at work in Share&Charge - is the cornerstone of growth and innovation. Once the pilot project is successfully completed, we shall explore the possibility of applying these same principles to a public system, extending the benefits to every e-mobilist out there. Due to differing regulations governing the resale of electricity in various European countries, we are, for the moment, focusing on the integration of public charging stations. Our plan to also get private charging points connected will be put into action as soon as we have cleared these remaining regulatory hurdles.
